North Korea

I watched a TV show about North Korea a week or so ago. Since then, it's been on my mind alot. Maybe it's just because they're so close to my state, I don't know. They're starving over there- really starving. The food that relief organizations are sending is being used to feed the army.

In the show, they interviewed North Koreans who'd managed to sneak over to China, where they still have to hide or risk being sent back. Kids were drawing pictures of people eating human flesh- it is for sale on the black market in North Korea. People have reduced themselves to cannibalism in order to survive. Theres reports of North Koreans being forced to eat tree bark and other inedible plants, just because of their hunger.

It saddens me. The cameraman stood at the border in China and panned his camera across the river, where the North Korean border began. You could see empty buildings with windows broken out, and factories standing still.

The atrocities seem unreal- stories of prison camps where newborns are murdered by guards as a "rule of thumb", human hands for sale on the street...

It's just the saddest thing. We here all have so much. Yeah, yeah, blah blah "axis of evil", etc.

So, what the hell is gonna be done about it?
